The Vein & Laser Clinic has established itself in the forefront of the treatment of venous disorders in British Columbia. The clinic opened in North Vancouver in 1992, initially as the Lonsdale Vein Clinic and was the first in British Columbia to use duplex ultrasound at the bedside, not just in the evaluation but across the entire treatment process of varicose vein disease. The clinic is now run by a surgeon, Dr. Udwadia, who has over 25 years of surgical experience. The Vein and Laser Clinic is under the directorship of Dr. Rushad T. Udwadia, Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC), Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), Fellow of the International College of Surgeons (FICS) and Fellow of the Canadian Society of Phlebology. Dr. Udwadia has been a surgeon since 1991 and is author of numerous articles in international journals and textbooks of surgery. For over fourteen years, he has devoted his professional career exclusively to the management of venous disorders. Dr. Udwadia specializes in the treatment of varicose and spider veins and related problems and has performed several thousand sessions of sclerotherapy over the years. The clinic has expanded to include an office in Surrey.

 

Varicose veins are a frequently encountered medical and cosmetic ailment, which to this day continues to challenge the ingenuity of the medical profession. Phlebology is a branch of medicine, which deals primarily with varicose vein disease. The introduction of ultrasound technology in the early 1990s in Europe is considered a major advance in phlebology as it has deepened our understanding of the anatomy and the associated hemodynamic disturbances that develop in varicose veins. Conventional treatment of varicose veins consisted of either stripping or basic compression sclerotherapy. The use of ultrasound allows much better evaluation and detection of varicose veins right up to their source. The use of ultrasound renders the treatment of varicose veins much safer and more effective with a significant reduction in recurrences as well as complications. 

 

Ambulatory or micro-incision phlebectomy is another technique that has been introduced at The Vein & Laser Clinic. This procedure offers removal of varicose veins through tiny incisions, which is more effective and less invasive than the conventional ligation/avulsion method (stripping).

Each patient will be provided with a detailed explanation of possible procedures and prescribed treatment cost, if any.
